Just a small summary of the stuff I did to the 6N in the past 1,5 year. Finally the car has been on the road since June 2010 again, it's not finished yet, but it's seen the road again! 8-)

Old engine went out, so time for some coffee

Obrazek

I think I saw one fly over the cuckoo's nest:

Obrazek

Then started stripping down the donor 20vT, which was to be completely rebuild with new bearings, rings, gaskets, etc. etc.

Obrazek

Obrazek

Test fitting it in the 6N:

Obrazek

First dilemma's popped up, had to do some modifications, old and new support on chassis:

Obrazek

And removed some stuff I wasn't going to use anymore at the same time:

Obrazek

Obrazek

Finally it hung in straight and even:

Obrazek

Obrazek

At first I wanted to just use the standard K03, but since I already had a KMS standalone-motormanagement ECU laying around, the choice became obvious -> go big or go home!
Then I got an offer I couldn't refuse, a friend of mine offered me a Garrett including the external wastegate kit, of which the wastegate housing and turbo exhausthousing were already flowed. So I bought that for the 20vT!

To give an impression, on the right a MHI 16T (not the smallest either), on the right my Garrett:

Obrazek

Obrazek

And of course it had to be obvious that a bigger turbo was installed, so it had to be seen on the engine. Therefore we choose a spot right above the engine!

Obrazek

Snug fit!

Obrazek

Measured it all, and had the manifold custom made from stainless steel, first only tack welded so we could trial fit it:

Obrazek

Obrazek

Some readjustments were needed, but nothing crazy. Then it was welded up and ball-polished, for bling and smoothness on the inside (better flow):

Obrazek

Turbo back on, also had the valvecover and inletmanifold ball-polished:

Obrazek

Obrazek

Autotechniek Leenders made the custom loom in the meantime  :

Obrazek

Ready for trialfit!:

Obrazek

Starting sanding down the enginebay, smoothed the stroke kit and the brackets I wasn't going to use anymore. Ready for it's primer in the booth at bij Autotechniek Leenders:

Obrazek

And sanding, sanding, sanding:

Obrazek

Time for colour:

Obrazek

Toen kon alles er weer langzaampjes in, rembekrachtiger weer netjes gemaakt:

Obrazek

Engine and gearbox got build back in the meantime in the workshop of Autotechniek Leenders, and put back in the car:

Obrazek

Garrett is on again, close, but he won't touch the firewall, did I say snug fit yet?

Obrazek

Then the intercooler piping could be made, minimal use of silicon to prevent loss in boost, plus metal can be ballpolished ;)

Obrazek

Time to custom make the exhaust, using the original catalic convertor, not sure if the cat stays on, but just for now it's on, and maybe I'll get a 200cpi cat lateron.

Obrazek

Obrazek

Obrazek

Obrazek

Van turbo tot einddemper naast de auto gelegd:

Obrazek

Ready for fitting back:

Obrazek

Obrazek

Heatwrap on the downpipe:

Obrazek

Turbo housing was cast, looked like shit to be honoust:

Obrazek

So I polished it:

Obrazek

Obrazek

Got the intercooler piping back from ballpolishing, smooth on the out- and inside :D

Obrazek

In the meantime Autotechniek Leenders:
-timed my new camshafts:

Obrazek

-fitted the stronger fuelpump:

Obrazek

-zinc-coated the bits and pieces:

Obrazek

Obrazek

-fitted the biggest master cilinder we could fit:

Obrazek

-and ballpolished the alternator housing, bracket etc.:

Obrazek

Found a spot for my airfilter, and got a pipe connecting it to the turbo made:

Obrazek

Obrazek

And it's nose is back on again in the workshop at Autotechniek Leenders:

Obrazek

Bought me Audi A6 winterwheels in the meantime:

Obrazek

Got them redrilled to 4x100, and polished at Felgenpoliererei Gescher:

Obrazek

165-40-16 Kumho's on:

Obrazek

Smoked the headlights:

Obrazek

Bought me a new mk6 Golf GTD steeringwheel:

Obrazek

And how it looked last Saturday evening, ready for it's debute at the first VW event over here in Holland:

Obrazek

Obrazek

Some minor stuff needs to be done now, but it finally drives again, now the first 500km, and then it's time for finetuning the standalone motormangement ECU at Hulsen Turbo Tuning on the dyno! :D

Is it your intention to kill us?
1.8T without cutting the chasis? standard gearbox? Thought it's immpossible to fit the T without giving more clearance for the gearbox
But...
3 things outside that don't follow your league
- ugly JE roof spoiler
- no name front grill
- stock headlights, even with smoked. In Pro or Hofele needed ;)

Thanks ko zack!

I don't get you Borek, kill you guys? Huh?
And no, you don't need to cut the chassis up to fit a 1.8T 20v engine into a 6N, why would you think that? Of course you need to make some adjustments, but no cutting the chassis. My chassis is still untouched, and as strong as it was when it came out of the VW factory, since no cutting was done.
And we used the standard 1.8T 20v gearbox on my car, fits perfectly if you do it the right way ;)
And I guess the taste for looks differ between Holland and Poland ;) I like my car the way it looks, although I do wanted to remove the rearspoiler, but there was no time left for the event, plus my pockets are getting a bit empty with the 20v engine with big turbo conversion costing me a lot of money ;) so the spoiler stays on untill I have some more cash to get it removed and the bootlid repainted again.

I mean it's totally mind blowing, no other 6n in Poland could stand in the same row with yours :) sorry, my english is not perfect (the same as it was with small bussinnes on PM  )

Oh, "killing the scene" type of killing it, I get it know, thanks for the compliment Borek! And yes, language-barriers will always exist, but the shared passion for Polo's is the same ;) and that's what counts right?! :D

@ moderators: because I use photobucket for uploading my photo's, I can't use thumbnails, Photobucket doesn't offer that option, I hope it's ok that I placed the pics like this?

Jarno, I've got a question regarding the Mk6 GTD steering wheel - does it match without a lot of fitting or do you have to make some custom job to fit that wheel?

Re: Jarno's Collection of Polo's - NL

: 10 mar 2012, 22:29
autor: Jarno
The fitment on the actual steering-shaft of the car is 100% the same, however the steeringwheel itself lacks the piece that turns off the indicator-lights after turning (hope you understand what I mean) and it does not make contact, so you can not use the original horn anymore, or need to make an adapter for that (I'm still working on trying to make an adapter). Hope that that answers your question?

Yup, that's what I wanted to know Jarno, thanks a lot for that :) I can actually use the original stering wheel to make the adjustments, so will try to adapt it as soon as I have some bills to get it :D
