Just a small summary of the stuff I did to the 6N in the past 1,5 year. Finally the car has been on the road since June 2010 again, it's not finished yet, but it's seen the road again! 8-)
Old engine went out, so time for some coffee
I think I saw one fly over the cuckoo's nest:
Then started stripping down the donor 20vT, which was to be completely rebuild with new bearings, rings, gaskets, etc. etc.
Test fitting it in the 6N:
First dilemma's popped up, had to do some modifications, old and new support on chassis:
And removed some stuff I wasn't going to use anymore at the same time:
Finally it hung in straight and even:
At first I wanted to just use the standard K03, but since I already had a KMS standalone-motormanagement ECU laying around, the choice became obvious -> go big or go home!
Then I got an offer I couldn't refuse, a friend of mine offered me a Garrett including the external wastegate kit, of which the wastegate housing and turbo exhausthousing were already flowed. So I bought that for the 20vT!
To give an impression, on the right a MHI 16T (not the smallest either), on the right my Garrett:
And of course it had to be obvious that a bigger turbo was installed, so it had to be seen on the engine. Therefore we choose a spot right above the engine!
Snug fit!
Measured it all, and had the manifold custom made from stainless steel, first only tack welded so we could trial fit it:
Some readjustments were needed, but nothing crazy. Then it was welded up and ball-polished, for bling and smoothness on the inside (better flow):
Turbo back on, also had the valvecover and inletmanifold ball-polished:
Autotechniek Leenders made the custom loom in the meantime  :
Ready for trialfit!:
Starting sanding down the enginebay, smoothed the stroke kit and the brackets I wasn't going to use anymore. Ready for it's primer in the booth at bij Autotechniek Leenders:
And sanding, sanding, sanding:
Time for colour:
Toen kon alles er weer langzaampjes in, rembekrachtiger weer netjes gemaakt:
Engine and gearbox got build back in the meantime in the workshop of Autotechniek Leenders, and put back in the car:
Garrett is on again, close, but he won't touch the firewall, did I say snug fit yet?
Then the intercooler piping could be made, minimal use of silicon to prevent loss in boost, plus metal can be ballpolished
Time to custom make the exhaust, using the original catalic convertor, not sure if the cat stays on, but just for now it's on, and maybe I'll get a 200cpi cat lateron.
Van turbo tot einddemper naast de auto gelegd:
Ready for fitting back:
Heatwrap on the downpipe:
Turbo housing was cast, looked like shit to be honoust:
So I polished it:
Got the intercooler piping back from ballpolishing, smooth on the out- and inside
In the meantime Autotechniek Leenders:
-timed my new camshafts:
-fitted the stronger fuelpump:
-zinc-coated the bits and pieces:
-fitted the biggest master cilinder we could fit:
-and ballpolished the alternator housing, bracket etc.:
Found a spot for my airfilter, and got a pipe connecting it to the turbo made:
And it's nose is back on again in the workshop at Autotechniek Leenders:
Bought me Audi A6 winterwheels in the meantime:
Got them redrilled to 4x100, and polished at Felgenpoliererei Gescher:
165-40-16 Kumho's on:
Smoked the headlights:
Bought me a new mk6 Golf GTD steeringwheel:
And how it looked last Saturday evening, ready for it's debute at the first VW event over here in Holland:
Some minor stuff needs to be done now, but it finally drives again, now the first 500km, and then it's time for finetuning the standalone motormangement ECU at Hulsen Turbo Tuning on the dyno!
